This is going to be one lengthy post, bear with it!

In our church, we keep learning about communication all the time.
Just a quick run-through all that we learned:
How to Pray: Prayer is really talking to God, we say. but i think, prayer is really listening to God. eh? he can tell us things that we can NEVER think(ideas) or imagine(the heart: feelings of comfort, peace and joy), so i think i rather listen to him. but of course must talk also la. Communication is TWO-WAYS.
The Caring-system: through communication, we meet emotional and spiritual needs.
The Love languages: through communication, we love one another.
The 5 Levels of communication: how to really communicate.

Just to clarify: in my opinion, communication is for 2 chief PURPOSE:
1) To create INTIMACY. Words can do wonders for LIFE.
2) To create UNDERSTANDING.

i love how practical and creative the bible is. To communicate is not to judge. One needs to be careful with words, for death and life is in the power of the tongue. Only fools will say what's on their mind without thinking. One must not be quick to anger when communicating. He who is wise speaks the appropriate words at the appropriate season. One must speak tactfully. Not to lie, but to use euphemisms. One must speak the truth. One must honor one's parents, with what? obviously with words of gratefulness and thankfulness for their upbringing.
Isn't the bible great in teaching us all these great truths about communicating?
Communicating is essential, no doubt about that.
-Think the TV, various media publications, internet and phones as important tools for disseminating information.
-Social interactivity: we all need to communicate with one another to interact and know one another.
-We can bring across what is in our MIND, which is our ideas, and what is in our HEART, which is our feelings.
-We can connect to God spiritually through PRAYER.

What does the secular world say then, about communication?
Communication is commonly defined as "the imparting or interchange of thoughts, opinions, or information by speech, writing, or signs.
the interesting fact is:
What you are trying to bring across to someone is determined by:
* 55% of impact is determined by body language--postures, gestures, and eye contact,
* 38% by the tone of voice, and
* 7% by the content or the words used in the communication process.
This tells you something: to completely convey the meaning and intention (and not just the INFORMATION)of your message correctly, you must speak to the person FACE-TO-FACE. In written form it only convey 7%, verbally it only conveys 41%.

Important points to take note about communication is:
1) Never assume that the person that you are speaking to would be able to FULLY grasp what you are trying to bring across to him or her. I do not meant facts and information, but i mean your IDEAS and FEELINGS.
-People can only grasp your ideas and feelings from his or her POINT OF VIEW, I.E, his or her OWN THOUGHTS and FEELINGS. For example, someone(ahem) have a deep-seated prejudice against Pastor John. thus no matter how hard Pst John tries to convey his message to him or her, he or she will never be convinced. This is due to the PRESUMPTIONS made by the person even before the communication process takes place. In this sense it reveals the IMPERFECTION of the human being: that we are never ever able to look at things OBJECTIVELY, hence our understanding will always be LIMITED. If you want someone to understand your FEELINGS and IDEAS COMPLETELY, you are bound to end up DISAPPOINTED.
-Look to God: he understands you PERFECTLY. He knows how many strands of hair you have on your head. He knows how wicked the human heart is, which was why he sent his Son to cleanse it, because ONLY his Son can do it. Communicate with Him. The thing about God is his COMPLETE OBJECTIVITY. Even when he JUDGES, we can only shut up and accept it because of his IMPARTIALITY.

2) We must learn not to say things IN THE SPUR OF THE MOMENT, OR that which Hurts others. HURTING OTHERS IS NOT COMMUNICATING AT ALL.
What things?
- The Disrespectful Judgments: Read Pst Kong's sermons! And also, God say don't judge. i think in this context it really meant not to condemn others, especially DISRESPECTFULLY. so, Don't judge.
Trivial E.G: SEE HOW SHE EAT? WA, everyday eat fried fish noodles plus rice! Sin of GLUTTONY HAHA PIG!
Serious E.G:
JOHN: WHAT ARE YOU TALKING TO YOUR COLLEAGUE ABOUT BEHIND MY BACK?
MARY: ER, work? (Shakes head innocuously.)
JOHN: HOW DARE YOU COMMIT ADULTERY BEHIND MY BACK? YOU SLUT! (SLAPS HER)

- The Spiteful things: You Feel HURT, so you say things that you know will deliberately hurt the other person. God says to love your enemies, to be peaceable. To my dear cg members, i know it's really hard to not say spiteful things sometimes, but here's a method:
A: Hey you XXXXXX(insert a disrespectful judgment).
B: ~instead of reacting with a spiteful word, why don't you take time to think of Jesus. No matter how persecuted he was, he never say a spiteful word to his Heavenly Father. He didn't crack and say " hey Dad you XXXXX for making to all these things!" instead, he fully supported his Father and went on to accomplish his ministry~ if all the time all we can think about is how to return a caustic remark with a spiteful remark and go on being a war-mongering christian, we can NEVER achieve what God wants us to do in this lifetime. :)
So, just close you eyes, take a deep breath, think of Jesus, and chill.
Romans 12: 14 says "Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse."

-The SARCASTIC REMARKS. HEY DUDES, YOU ARE REALLY SO NICE PEOPLE! SO GREAT! I REALLY REALLY LOVE YOU MAN! WITH ALL OF MY HEART AND SOUL. YOU GUYS REALLY CHANGE MY LIFE SO MUCH THAT I HAVE TO THANK YOU FOR IT. REALLY THANK LEH. GIMME SO MUCH CARE AND CONCERN THAT I CHANGE SO MUCH.
if that irritated you, it meant that sarcasm is really not the way to go. Be sincere in your speech. again, i love romans 12. Verse 16 says "....Do not set your mind on high things, but associate with the humble. Do not be wise in your own opinion. "
if that did not irritate you, well.. i will not be sarcastic here. lol :)

- The guilt-trip. (this can be also considered spiteful, only in a more subtle and mean way.)
To me, this is the most hurtful of it all and the most frustrating. When things do not go a person's way, we tend to react in different ways:
- We try to make the best of it and see the light in the end of the tunnel. we are calm, amicable and peaceable. Unfortunately, we are not perfect, and we end up:
- Being spiteful directly to inflict hurt on others, and going overboard about your problems and exaggerating your ideas and emotions.
- Being silent, channeling the problems inward. this meant not communicating at all. this is bad, if we do not express ourselves, others will ASSUME what we are thinking and feeling. which is DANGEROUS.
- Putting others on the guilt-trip, inflicting hurt and at the same time masking up the real problem.
again, Romans 12:19 says "Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,”says the Lord"
Please do not hurt others with our words anymore!

3) we must learn to forget the words that are said which you KNOW THAT YOU KNOW THAT when the opposite party said it, HE OR SHE DID NOT MEAN IT.
- This means to FORGIVE the person that says those hurtful things stated in point 2. We are not perfect, but we can try. see how jesus did it :)
- Doing so will prevent us from being OPINIONATED and form PREJUDICE against a person, which will help is in UNDERSTANDING the person ( i got say this is one of the purpose hor ^_^)

4) We must learn in communication that while OPENNESS is IMPORTANT, we will not be CARELESS in our speech
- Do not reveal Secrets that you promise to keep. Secrets are intimate. yes. they are. So please RESPECT them.
- Be HONEST. being open doesn't mean you try to impress others by EMBELLISHING or TWISTING your words. When a person does not trust you, He or she will not communicate with you and hence will not UNDERSTAND you. It is at this point, that relationships are broken. proverbs 4:24 says "Put away from you a deceitful mouth, And put perverse lips far from you."
- This also meant that, base on your trust on the person, you will determine the LEVELS of Communication that you want to achieve whenever you speak to a particular person.
- how then, is trust established? through ACTIONS. this topic too big liao. lol

Last point
5) Have wisdom in your speech.
romans 12: 15 says "Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep."
Learning how to bring across an idea tactfully. how to judge, and not Condemn. How to say the right thing at the right time without LYING. In proverbs, God repeatedly tells us to LISTEN to his WORDS. To UNDERSTAND his wisdom, to
5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart,
And lean not on your own understanding;
6 In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He shall direct[a] your paths.
he says
My son, pay attention to my wisdom;
Lend your ear to my understanding,
2 That you may preserve discretion,
And your lips may keep knowledge.

How to attain wisdom? From God.


With this, i hope we can learn how to communicate with one another. The CG will grow from strength to strength if we are willing to be open and honest one another, to share our testimonies, our dreams and visions. Our hurts, our troubles. Our feelings. it will take time, we might misunderstand each other. We might face even more problems. but i don't care about the situation. i know that i know, that if we communicate deeply as a cell group, we will meet each other spiritual needs and GROW. we need reach God. we will then truly communicate with him.

Jesus, i pray that N395 is able to share with each our innermost spiritual thoughts to one another, to trust one another completely, have faith that we will able to help one other solve their problems. I pray that that through communication, our cell group will grow like never before. As we improve our communication skills, we will be able to reach out effectively in the marketplace and shine for you. I pray that we are able to communicate to you as a cell group our dreams and visions. You will give us fresh revelations and your love will pour down so strongly over us in every cell group meeting. In Jesus name i humbly ask of all this, and i await in deep expectation and anticipation your anointing to pour forth in our cell group as we learn to communicate. In Jesus name i pray, Amen.
